Polaroid is back! After a decade-long slumber, the company has returned to the market under the name Polaroid Originals and immediately introduced new products - the Polaroid OneStep 2 instant camera and I-Type cartridges, which we will tell you more about.
To start - a bit of history
This amazing relaunch coincided with the 80th anniversary of the legendary Polaroid brand, founded by Edwin Land back in 1937. After popularizing instant photography and reaching its peak in the early 1990s, Polaroid went bankrupt in 2001 and ended production of instant cartridges in 2008.
The instant cartridge type was first revived by the Impossible Project team, which bought the last Polaroid factory in the Netherlands before it disappeared. In May 2017, the Impossible Project acquired the Polaroid brand and intellectual property, and today we see the result of this acquisition: the end of the Impossible brand and the revival of the Polaroid brand.
The new camera
The new Polaroid Originals OneStep 2 is an instant camera that is the "spiritual successor" to the iconic Polaroid OneStep of the 1970s. Like the original camera, the OneStep 2 is a fully analog camera compatible with both 600 series cartridges and the new i-Type cartridges.

Features of the OneStep 2 include a high-quality lens (from 60 cm to infinity), a 60-day battery charge, built-in flash, self-timer, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery (charged via USB), and an extremely minimalist design that is easy to understand and use for photographers of any level.
The camera has a built-in strong flash, so you can confidently head to the darkest dance floors and take great photos. Other available features include a timer and the ability to make photos brighter or darker.
The camera works with I-Type cartridges, which do not have a battery, and is also compatible with 600-type cartridges.
The shooting process
It’s worth noting right away that the lens has a fixed focus, but this is part of the OneStep philosophy, so just enjoy the process. Currently, the kit includes nothing but a strap. We hope new models with lenses, colored flashes, and other photo accessories will appear in the future.
Like the original OneStep, the OneStep 2 is simple to use. Turn on the camera, aim at the subject using the large viewfinder, and press the red button. That’s it!

I-Type cartridges
The new i-Type cartridges from Polaroid Originals come in color, black and white, and "special" editions. The "I" in the name stands for incredible.

After you hear that familiar clunk and whirr, you’ll be able to see the image appear on the photo within the first minute or two, with full development taking about 15 minutes.
The new cartridges have a noticeably different brightness and contrast balance compared to other cartridges. You could say there is much more black and yellow, which makes the shots deeper, but still with the same "Polaroid effect." Overall, the color and development speed of the film have improved.
Polaroid Originals notes that the new I-Type cartridges are not only better in quality but also "easier on the wallet." The cartridges were made cheaper thanks to the absence of a battery inside the cartridge itself.
For our test of the new camera, we received a defective cartridge, which caused bluish streaks on the photos. But that didn’t upset us at all! Take a look at the portraits we took indoors (in the store) and outside. Very pleasant colors, sharp lines. We will leave the photos by the window to check if the image will fade.
